Tavor’s ability to produce as an annual in a single season makes it an excellent choice for gardeners in various climates.
Tavor artichokes are prized for their exceptional sweetness and tender texture, making them ideal for a wide range of culinary applications. Whether steamed, grilled, or used in dips, these artichokes deliver a buttery flavor that elevates any dish. Their uniform size ensures consistent cooking results, while the purple-tipped appearance adds a touch of visual appeal to your plate. As an improved Imperial Star type, Tavor offers enhanced productivity and quality, perfect for both home gardeners and market growers.
These robust plants grow to a height of 3-4 feet, creating an impressive presence in the garden. Plant Tavor artichokes with 2-3 feet of spacing to allow for optimal growth and air circulation. The ability to grow as an annual means you can enjoy fresh artichokes even in regions with shorter growing seasons, expanding the possibilities for artichoke cultivation.
Growing Success Tips:
- Start seeds indoors 10-12 weeks before the last frost date for early harvests
- Provide full sun to partial shade and well-draining, fertile soil
- Water consistently and mulch to maintain soil moisture
- Harvest buds when they reach full size but before the bracts open
Tavor artichokes offer an exceptional combination of flavor, productivity, and adaptability. Whether you’re a culinary enthusiast or a market gardener, these artichokes will exceed your expectations with their sweet taste and impressive yield. For extended harvests, consider succession planting every 2-3 weeks.
