Nautic Brussels Sprouts: Disease-Resistant Delights for Your Garden
Discover the Nautic Brussels Sprouts, a hybrid variety that combines reliability with exceptional flavor. Maturing in 120 days, these sturdy plants produce tightly wrapped 1-inch sprouts that are both delicious and disease-resistant. Nautic’s unique wide spacing between sprouts allows for better air circulation, reducing the risk of disease and making harvesting a breeze.
Nautic Brussels Sprouts are perfect for gardeners seeking a high-yielding, low-maintenance crop. Their excellent cold tolerance means you can enjoy a prolonged harvest well into the fall, with frost actually enhancing their sweet, nutty flavor. The vigorous plants reach 24-30 inches in height, producing an impressive yield of up to 12 ounces per plant, ensuring a bountiful harvest for weeks on end.
These Brussels sprouts thrive in full sun to partial shade and prefer well-drained, nutrient-rich soil. Plant seeds 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep, spacing plants 18 inches apart in rows 30-36 inches apart. For optimal growth, fertilize well at planting and side-dress when plants reach 12 inches tall. To encourage uniform sprout development, pinch out the growing tip of the plant in late summer when the bottom sprouts are thumb-sized.
Growing Success Tips:
- Start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost date for an early crop
- Ensure consistent moisture and mulch to retain soil humidity
- Protect young plants from pests with row covers
- Harvest sprouts from the bottom up when they reach 1-1.5 inches in diameter
Nautic Brussels Sprouts offer an exceptional combination of disease resistance, productivity, and flavor. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or a novice, these sprouts will reward you with a delicious and nutritious harvest that’s perfect for roasting, sautéing, or adding to your favorite recipes.
For an extra flavor boost, wait to harvest until after the first light frost of the season.
