Yaya Carrot: A Sweet and Crisp Early Nantes Variety
Discover the delightful Yaya Carrot, a standout among carrot lovers for its exceptional flavor and crisp texture. This early Nantes type matures quickly, ready for baby carrot harvest in just 50 days or full-size in 60 days[3]. Yaya’s popularity stems from its versatility, offering gardeners and chefs alike a carrot that excels in both fresh eating and culinary applications[7].
Yaya carrots boast a perfect balance of sweetness and classic carrot essence, making them ideal for a variety of uses. Their uniform, smooth roots grow to 5 1/2–6 1/2 inches long, with a bright orange color that’s as appealing to the eye as it is to the palate[1][2]. The short, strong tops make Yaya excellent for bunching, while their crisp texture ensures they hold up well in storage or when used in soups[7].
These carrots thrive in well-drained, loose soil with a pH range of 6.0-6.8[1]. Plant Yaya carrots from early spring to midsummer, spacing them about 6 inches apart in rows[3]. The compact plants reach a height of 6-8 inches, making them suitable for smaller garden spaces or raised beds[4]. Yaya’s productivity and early maturation make it an excellent choice for succession planting, ensuring a steady supply of fresh carrots throughout the growing season.
Growing Success Tips:
- Maintain consistent soil moisture during germination and early growth stages[2]
- Use raised beds to minimize soil compaction and promote straight root development[1]
- Thin seedlings to 3/4–2 inches apart for optimal size and shape[1]
- Cover exposed crowns with soil or mulch to prevent greening[3]
Yaya carrots offer gardeners a reliable, high-performing variety that combines early maturation with superior taste and texture. Whether you’re a market gardener looking for a crowd-pleasing bunch carrot or a home cook seeking the perfect addition to your recipes, Yaya delivers on all fronts.
For the sweetest carrots, harvest Yaya after a light frost in the fall, which enhances sugar development in the roots.
