Sugar Ann Snap Peas: Early-Harvest Dwarf Variety for Compact Gardens
Discover the delightful Sugar Ann Snap Pea, a petite powerhouse that brings gourmet-quality snap peas to your garden in just 55 days. This award-winning variety, developed by renowned pea breeder Calvin Lamborn, offers an exceptionally early harvest on compact 24-inch vines, making it perfect for small spaces and container gardens[7][8].
Sugar Ann Snap Peas deliver a concentrated set of crisp, pale green pods that are as sweet as they are tender. Each 2 to 2.5-inch pod bursts with flavor, ideal for fresh snacking, stir-fries, or steaming. Their dwarf nature doesn’t compromise on taste or yield, producing 1-2 pods per node and ensuring a bountiful harvest from a small footprint[8][5].
These easy-to-grow peas thrive in cool weather, making them excellent for both early spring and fall plantings. Their compact size eliminates the need for trellising, simplifying cultivation and harvesting. Sugar Ann’s early maturity also means you’ll be enjoying fresh peas weeks before standard varieties, extending your pea season when planted alongside later-maturing cultivars[5][6].
Growing Success Tips:
- Sow seeds as soon as soil can be worked in spring
- Plant 1 inch deep and 1-1.5 inches apart
- Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged
- Harvest frequently to encourage continued production
Sugar Ann Snap Peas offer gardeners a perfect blend of convenience, productivity, and flavor. Whether you’re a novice gardener or a seasoned pro, these peas promise a rewarding and delicious crop with minimal effort.
For an extra-sweet fall harvest, try planting Sugar Ann in late July or early August[6].
